Now You See Me
Rubber from electrical cables
60cm x 3800cm
2022 Lisbon
Made during artist residency at PADA
Now You See Me is a giant rubber cable column made from different coloured rubber cables salvaged from a recycling yard in Barreiro. Hidden behind giant concrete walls cables are being hand-sorted and stripped of their precious metals. With rubber having little value it is downgraded into granules and recycled. Not all the rubber cables make it to the recycling stage and instead are sent to landfill. The column is intended to highlight this process and make us think about broken systems and infrastructures happening all around us.
